The Kıyı İstanbul Project is located in Büyükçekmece, one of Istanbul’s most beautiful seaside districts, situated at the western edge of the city. Since the 1950s, Büyükçekmece has served as a summer resort town with its long coastline. Over time, it has grown steadily, completed its infrastructure, and evolved into a vibrant urban area on the western coast of Istanbul, positioned at Europe’s gateway.
Our project site is located at a unique point where lake, sea, and highway intersect—on the historic transportation axis opening toward Europe—and where the long Büyükçekmece shoreline converges geographically.
While designing the project, we aimed to fully benefit from the opportunities offered by this exceptional location at the city’s edge and at a major intersection point. Positioned at the end of the coastal axis, the project area is intended to be naturally accessed by pedestrians, allowing city residents to enter the site as a seamless extension of their daily routines and urban life.
Our goal is to sustain the city’s spatial continuity through streets, surprise-filled squares, a promenade that continues the eastern shoreline, and piers, ensuring the calm and uninterrupted continuation of Büyükçekmece residents’ everyday living habits. At the same time, one of our primary objectives is to create a destination that serves as a recreational area for all Istanbul families—a place where marina life, the sea, and seaside culture come together in harmony.
